After the GST is implemented, the first shock can be seen as expensive medicines because the prices of many essential medicines can be increased. NPPA has issued new sealing price for essential medicines, which has fixed prices of medicines. Drug makers say that after this, the price of many medicines will increase.
NPPA has announced the ceiling price after GST. The ceiling price of 761 essential drugs has been renewed. In fact, excise duty was attached to the first sealing price, but excise duty has not been added to the new ceiling price. Therefore, these essential drugs will have to pay 12 per cent GST instead of 9 per cent tax earlier. This can increase the prices of many essential medicines by 2-2.5%. However, NPPA claims that there will be no impact on prices of 78 percent of the medicines.
